Hey Folks,

There are many reasons, other than price, to take a remedial look at your car insurance. The six reasons below should be indicators of when and why you should call for a review.

  1. You just got a violation. I know, I know, you think telling your agent to give you advice means they must immediately run to the carrier and spill the beans. Until you are convicted, or convict your self by paying the fine, it will not impact your rates. Also, wouldn't it be nice to know that your company may allow a violation conviction without an increase.
  2. You just had an accident. Depending on the type of accident: Fender Bender, Injury, total loss of your car or just a minor dust up, you may move in an number of different directions. This is a really good time to learn from a real life claim and make sure you have the right coverage in place for future losses.
  3. You just added a young driver, or considering adding a young driver. Crash rates for new drivers are three times higher than even their 18-19 year old counterparts.  check out this link for more info....Teen Driver Stats....Call your agent to get updated rates and driving scenarios. Ask for all discounts that may apply and consider only allowing an occasional use of the vehicle.
  4. You just bought a house. Moving your address is very important in rating a car policy. It also may give you a great discount by bundling the policies. Also, make sure, if you have a mortgage, you discuss life insurance. Some carriers offer a triple discount for all three policies together.
  5. You are considering a new car. Get the VIN from the dealer and have your agent "plug it in" to avoid sticker shock. Each car has it's own rating and some can vary by 50-60% based on the type of car, cost new, and safety features.
  6. You changed jobs. Your commuting distance has changed. If it's shorter or you telecommute part of your week, you should get a discount.
