OCEAN CITY, Md. -- While shallow water seems like the safest place to play in the surf, swimmers suffer serious neck injuries close to shore every summer.

 

11 News reporter Kerry Cavanaugh shows how the Ocean City Beach Patrol is saving lives with a life-saving technique. Watch the video below:

Cavanaugh's report first aired last summer, so it's currently been two years since Ward's accident. He told 11 News recently that he's doing very well, is back to work and has gone back in the water.
